What happens during my session?

Here's a general overview of what typically happens during an initial Physiotherapy / Sports Therapy appointment for new patients. Keep in mind that specific procedures may vary depending on the clinic and the therapist's approach and your needs:

Patient History:

The therapist will conduct an in-depth interview to gather information about the patient's medical history, current symptoms, and any relevant lifestyle factors.

This includes details about the onset and nature of the problem, previous treatments, and any other health concerns.

Physical Examination:

A thorough physical examination is conducted to assess the patient's range of motion, strength, flexibility, and any specific issues related to the presenting condition.

Specialized tests may be performed to identify the root cause of the problem.

Assessment and Diagnosis:

Based on the information gathered from the history and physical examination, the therapist will provide an initial assessment and diagnosis.

They will discuss their findings with the patient, explaining the nature of the condition and potential contributing factors.

Goal Setting:

Collaboratively, the physiotherapist and patient will establish realistic and specific goals for the treatment plan.

These goals may include pain reduction, improved mobility, increased strength, and enhanced functionality.

Treatment Plan:

The therapist will outline a personalised treatment plan, incorporating various therapeutic modalities, exercises, and interventions tailored to the patient's needs.

This plan may also include education about the condition and self-management strategies.

Hands-On Treatment:

Depending on the diagnosis, the therapist may provide hands-on manual therapy or other specialised techniques to address specific issues.

Home Exercise Program:

Patients are sometimes prescribed a set of exercises to be performed at home, aimed at reinforcing the benefits of in-clinic treatments and promoting long-term recovery.

Follow-Up Appointments:

The therapist will discuss the frequency and duration of follow-up appointments, depending on the nature and severity of the condition.
